Hold on to that empty plastic bottle, it may help lives in times of disaster. PEPSI Philippines recently celebrated the launch of SALBA-BOTE, the latest innovation from One Meralco Foundation (OMF) in disaster preparedness.
Salba-Bote is an improvised flotation device (IFD) made up of empty PET bottles placed inside a PVC-coated mesh tote bag with a water-resistant pocket for emergency supplies like flashlights, mobile phones, medicines and bottled water. It can hold a 200-pound individual afloat.
Collaborating with program partners Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Philippine Red Cross, Glad, and OMF, Pepsi provided bottles that serve as floaters for the initial batch of 500 IFDs that were recently turned over to the local officials of Marikina led by Mayor del De Guzman.
“Salba-bote represents a shared goal of empowering communities, especially in times of natural calamities. If through Salba-Bote, our bottles can be used in saving lives, then we will continue to gladly support this cause, alongside One Meralco Foundation and our other program partners.” states Jika Dalupan, Pepsi Philippines Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Communications.
